Stafleu/C. 9688. - We have already referred to Redouté's famous Les Roses and Les Liliacées, and to the two splendid volumes on the flowers of Malmaison; scarcely less wonderful are the plates, so much admired by Ruskin, for La Botanique de J.J. Rousseau (1805)... the plates being printed in colour and retouched with water-colour until they have almost the quality of an original drawing... (Blunt). - Die zweite der von Stafleu/C. genannten beiden Groß-Folio-Ausgaben von 1805. - Seltene Ausgabe, wobei die Titelvign. nur mit Roussoea Simplex bez. ist (statt längerer Beschriftung) und die Tafeln im Zustand sind, wie auf S. V unter Nota benannt: Il a été imprimé quelques exemplaires avant la lettre où la marque indicative des détails ne se trouve pas; l'intelligence du lecteur y suppléra facilement. - Breitrandig (Bl.Gr. 500:324 mm). - Stellenw. etwas stockfl., die Taf. meist nur im Rand. Die meisten Tafeln blütenweiß, alle mit ihren originalen Seidenhemdchen. - Vors. knitterig, vord. Vors. mit Schenkungsvermerk: David Pennant (1763-1841) to his beloved grand-daughter Louisa Pennant (1828-1853) on her natal day August 9, 1838 (vgl. www.archiveswales.org.uk). - Good margins, some foxing, most plates only affected at edges, contemporary cloth binding with lettering-piece, spine damaged and repaired, endpapers creased.
