Burden, Addenda 311/9 (von 12). McLaughlin/M. 15/7 (von 9). Tooley, California 20-1 (andere Ausg.). Wagner 425 Anm. - Erstmals mit Dat. 1655 erschienene, in allen Zuständen recht seltene Karte. Hier mit neuer Datierung u. Einzeichnung der "Partie de la grande Terre Australe", ferner die "Explication" mit ornament. Schmuck mit einem Indianer, der Stechername nahezu unleserlich. - Oben in beiden Bildhälften mittig gr. Braunfl. u. je 2 Wurmgänge mit kl. Nachzeichnungen hinter- u. im weißen Rand auch überklebt. unt. 3 kleinere u. re. 1 gr. Randeinriß tls. breit hinterlegt, ebenso Einriß am Bug mittig. Gekauft wie besichtigt. - "Uncommon" map, according to Burden in its 9th state (of 12). "It follows Sanson's 'Amerique Septentrionale' in many ways... One area is different, in the north-west Duval introduces 'Terre de Iesso' and 'Destroit d'Anien'." (B.). The main differences to the preceding editions are: several place names added to California, upper cartouche with Indian native and at lower right the addition of a southern coastline. - Contemp. col. in outline. Two big brown spots and 4 wormpaths to upper image laid down and strengthened in margin, a few letters supplied in mss.; 4 (1 big) tears repaired. Waf.
