Das Werk des englischen Chirurgen besteht in der Hauptsache aus einer engl. Übersetzung von Bidloos berühmtem anatom. Tafelwerk, dessen Tafeln Cowper vom Verleger angekauft hatte. Außer einigen Zusätzen u. Ergänzungen stammt von Cowper nur der Appendix mit 9 von van der Gucht gest. neuen Tafeln. Die prachtvollen Tafeln des Hauptwerkes zählen zu den besten anatom. Abbildungen des 17. Jh. - First published in English in 1698, this edition, revised by Albinus, contains the 300 impressions of the original plates taken from Bidloo's Anatomia, 1685. Cowper used 105 of Bidloo's plates and nine of his own, pasted his name over Bidloo's on the cartouche title page, made a few corrections, translated and printed the work in English at Leiden under his own name. This theft and plagiarism was brought before the Royal Society by Bidloo, where a bitter exchange of polemical writings occurred. - Front. fl. u. mit Randausriss.
