Taylor S. 9. - Dritte Ausgabe des offiziellen, von Cook selbst verfaßten Berichts der zweiten Weltreise, deren wissenschaftliche Bedeutung fast noch höher einzuschätzen ist als die der ersten (vgl. ausf. Henze I, 675-695). Die Reise beendete die Spekulationen um einen noch unbekannten südlichen Kontinent und war die erste wissenschaftliche Expedition der Südpolarregion. Von besonderer Bedeutung war die Entdeckung und kartographische Erfassung zahlr. neuer Inseln und Inselgruppen, mit Beschreibung von Flora und Fauna, sowie Informationen über die Eingeborenen und ihre Sprache. - Es fehlen die Taf. 5-12, 17-19, 22, 25-27, 35-41, 45-48, 52 u. 55-58.
