Roller & Goodman I, 169. - First edition of this rare catalogue of more than 1500 rock specimens collected in different parts of Italy by the eminent naturalist and geologist, Giambattista Brocchi. The Catalogo ragionato "is a useful compendium of original observations on the geology of central and southern Italy. Brocchi's scientific contribution lay in the accurate observation, recording, and incorporation into the current body of scientific knowledge of a vast amount of new data from very diverse fields, especially the earth sciences' (DSB II, 481). - Original wrappers with printed spine label, entirely uncut. A clean and crisp copy. PROVENANCE: Ferdinandeum (stamp on title); N. Pavoni, inscription dated 2 July 1964.
