Zweite Ausgabe in einer von 2 Druckvarianten. - STC 718. Souhart 394. Harting 277. Westwood-S. 174. Jeanson 1448. Schwerdt II, 123: "Second edition. The ornamental title and the twenty-one engravings, are on copper, larger and quite different from those of the first edition. The plates are certainly inspired by Stradanus's 'Venationes Ferarum', but well-executed. Out of the 21 plates, eight are in duplicate, and only one - facing page 470, 'Pruning Time' - is not reproduced in the third edition." Ceresoli 441/42: "2a edizione, rara anch'essa, aumentata rispetto la prima nei libri II, III e IV e del libro V. Ne esistono esemplari con dedica al Serenissimo Principe Maurizio Card(inale) di Savoia e altri con dedica a Fabrizio Caraffa Duca d'Andria: più rari a trovarsi questi ultimi." - Vorliegend der seltenere Druck mit der Widmung an Caraf(f)a. (Die beiden derzeit digitalisiert verfügbaren Exemplare - das der BSB und das der ÖNB - haben beide die Widmung an den Fürsten Maurizio; für Italien sind im italienischen Verbundkatalog 16 Exemplare nachgewiesen, jedoch ohne Variantenunterscheidung.) - Gestoch. Titel aufgezogen auf ein Bl. mit gestoch. Wappenexlibris (Name des Eigners rasiert); wenige Bl. stärker, ansonsten leicht gebräunt, etw. fleckig. Second edition in one of 2 issues. - Here we have the rarer issue with the dedication to Caraf(f)a. (The two digitalized copies available at the moment - the one of the BSB and the other of the ÖNB - have both the dedication to prince Maurizio; in Italy there are 16 copies recorded in the Italian union catalogue, however without distinction of versions). - Engraved title mounted on a leaf with engraved armorial exlibris (name of owner erased); some leaves stronger, otherwise only slightly browned, a little soiled. - Contemporary vellum (hardly scratched and scuffed, a little soiled).
