(Deckel lose, tls. beschabt u. bestoßen).

The case concerning Jane Wenham relates to the last known instance in which a witch was convicted in England. The overturning of the jury's verdict by the judge created an incident that provoked a brief pamphlet war. Jane Wenham was placed on trial at the instigation of Sir Henry Chauncy, the Rev. Francis Bragge of Hitchin appearing as a witness against the supposed witch. He was afterwards the author of a pamphlet that was bought in great numbers and read with avidity. - Durchgeh. gebr. u. stockfleckig. Selten.
