Burmeister, Münster, 116 f. - First Latin edition of this important and scholarly history and topography of the Alpine country Rhaetia. lt is the first work by Aegidius (Gilg) Tschudi to be published, remained the only printed one during bis lifetime and led the foundation for his fame as a historian. Tschudi wrote this work at the age of 21, based on original research and personal observation during bold excursions in the regional mountain". Some times later, when bis former teacher Glarean visited Glarus, he entrusted him the manuscript. Sebastian Münster translated it into Latin and had both versios printed simultaneously at Basle in spring 1538. - Die Rhaetia' ist das einzige zu Lebzeiten Tschudis gedruckten Werk. Es begründete seinen Ruhm, erregte das Entzücken der Kenner, bahnte den Verkehr mit Vadian, Bullinger, Stumpf an, verursachte einen Aufruhr in der Gelehrtenwelt und hatte eine tiefe Nachwirkung, indem es die Heimatkunde begründete (Feller-Bonjour 1, 315). - Die ersten 5 Bl. mit einigen Wurmlöchern, Titelbl. etw. stärker, verso Titel Sammlerst.
