Nissen, BBI 1490. Pritzel 6934. Hunt 235. Einzige Ausgabe. - "The Herball by John Gerard... galt in England fast ein Jahrhundert als Standardwerk, bis dann 1629 der Apotheker Th. Johnson und der große englische Botaniker John Parkinson wirklich originale und wertvolle Arbeiten veröffentlichen konnten" (Heilmann S. 289). Enthält neben Auszügen aus zahlr. botanischen Schriften auch Teile des von Parkinson erworbenen, noch unveröffentlichten Nachlasses von Lobelius. U.a. werden 28 bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt in England noch nicht registrierte Pflanzenarten beschrieben, darunter Frauenschuh, Erdbeerbaum, eine Mohnart u.a. "Could perhaps be called the last British herbel" (Plesch 585). - Die S. 142-43 u. 1653-62 in der Paginierung ausgelassen. Fehlen der gest. Tit. u. Drucktitel (in Faksimile eingebunden) sowie S. 167-68, 597-600 u. 1609-10 zus. 4 Bl. Etw. gebräunt, tls. fleckig, vereinzelt stockfleckig. Wenige Randeinrisse, 1 bis in Holzschn. reichend, 1 hinterlegt, 1 Bl. mit etw. Buchstabenverlust durch kl. Fehlstelle. Registerbl. mit Randläsuren. - Lacking engr. title and printed title (both in faksimile only) and 8 pp. (167-68, 597-600, 1609-10). Some browning, foxing and stains. Marginal tears of few leaves.
