Holzschnittfig. im Text. 7 Bl., 918 S., 1 Bl.; 959 S. (gest. Titel mitpag.), 48 Bl. Schöne Schweinsldrbde. mit reicher Blindpräg. (Rollen u. Plattenstempeln), dat. 1596 u. mit Monogramm W.I.D. (Etw. gebräunt, tls. berieben u. leicht fleckig, 3 Schließbänder abgerissen).
Adams E 987. BM, Italian Books 238. de Backer-S. II, 1213, 2. - Zweite von Christoph Clavius bearbeitete Ausgabe. NDB 3, 279: "Wegen seiner bewunderungswürdigen Gabe, mit der er alle Erkenntnisse der Mathematik seiner Zeit erklärte und verständlich machte, erhielt er (Clavius) den Ehrentitel 'Euklid des 16. Jhdts' ... Sein berühmtestes Werk (sind) Euclidis Elementorum libri XV (zuerst Rom 1574, mit einem 16. Buch von Clavius selbst)". - "His main work. His contemporaries called Clavius 'the Euclid of the sixteenth century'. The 'Elements', which is not a translation, contains a vast quantity of notes collected from previous commentators and editors, as well as some good criticisms and elucidations of his own" (DSB III, 311). - Titelbl. mit unter. kl.
