Erste Ausgabe. - Compiled chiefly from the works of Demetrius, the Emperor Frederick II, Belisarius Aquaviva, Albertus Magnus, and Carcano." - Unter den Künstlern sind der Florentiner Tier - und Miniaturmaler Lorenzo Bennini, der Frankfurter Cornelius Schwindt und der Hofmaler der Medici, Giacomo Ligozzi. "Ganz besonders lobt Aldrovandi seinen Holzschneider Cristoforo Coriolano (Lederer?) aus Nürnberg, der zusammen mit seinen Enkeln die Figuren so elegant geschnitten habe, daß sie eher wie Kupferstiche wirkten. Vor allem das Gefieder ist oft mit bewundernswerter Virtuosität gearbeitet" (Nissen S. 37). - Vorsatz mit Spuren eines entfernten Exlibris, Gelenke gebrochen, der gestochene Titel sehr knapp beschnitten (minimaler Bildverlust), wenige Bl. mit Randausrissen, stellenw. mit Wurmspuren im Kopfsteg, tls. fleckig, unterschiedlich gebräunt. - First edition. - Endpaper with traces of removed exlibris, joints broken, engraved title very closely trimmed (minor loss of illustration), a few leaves with marginal tear-outs, some worming here and there at upper margin, some soiling, variable browning. - Contemporary damaged calf.
