Berlin 4064. - Die großformatigen, prachtvollen Stiche nach den Fresken Raffaels in den Vatikanischen Stanzen gelten als das bedeutendste Werk des Zeichners, Malers und Kupferstechers Francesco Faraone Aquila (um 1676 - um 1740), der ab ca. 1690 in Rom tätig war. "The work being highly interesting and not very common" (Ottley). - Die Folge umfaßt 19 Nummern, wobei die (hier nicht vorhandene) Nummer 3 aus vier getrennten Blättern besteht, so daß sich eine Gesamtzahl von 22 Blättern ergibt. Hier vorhanden die Nrn. 2 und 4-19, darunter die Blätter der Schule von Athen, Disputà, Parnaß, Vertreibung Heliodors aus dem Tempel, Befreiung Petri aus dem Gefängnis und des Borgobrands. - Die sehr breiten Ränder mit kleinen Läsuren, Einrissen und Knicken sowie etw. fleckig. - Plano gebunden. - Alle Bl. mit Stempel der "Succession Gheldolf", einer belgischen Sammlung des 19. Jhdts. (Lugt 1080). The magnificent, large-sized copperplates after Raffael's frescos in the Vatican stanza are considered to be the major work by the draftsman, painter and engraver Francesco Faraone Aquila (around 1676 - around 1740). - Here we have the numbers 2 and 4-19, among them the leaves of the school of Athens, Disputà, Helidor's expulsion from the temple, Peter's rescue from prison and the fire of Borgo. - Minor damages, tears and creases to the very large margins, some soiling as well. - Bound plano. - All leaves with stamp of the "Succession Gheldolf", a Belgian collection of the 19th century (Lugt 1080). - Damaged wrappers of the 19th century.
