Cushing considered Macewen the 'chief pioneer in craniocerebral surgery'" (Norman, Neurosciences, 314). - "Macewen's greatest work was in connexion with surgery of the brain. In the above book he included extensive case reports of 65 patients under his care, with details of operative procedures" (Garrison/Morton zum Textband). - "Macewen's greatest achievement is probably his foundation of neurological surgery...
