Jh., vom Autor zusammengetragen, als er im Auftrag des Kaisers nach Prag reiste, um König Georg Podiebrad zu versöhnen. - Vors. erneuert. Tls. stärker gebr., tls. etw. stockfl. - History of Bohemia by Pope Pius II. (1405-1464) was first published in Rome in 1475. Covering Czech history from the earliest times up to the reign of George of Podebrady the work displays typical features of humanist historiography - sophisticated style, erudition and ingenuity; in Bohemia published first by M. Konas of Hodistkov (1510) and then by Daniel Adam of Veleslavin (1585); later editions abroad played a double-edged role - they contributed to the spread of knowledge of Czech history but being written by a Catholic theologian the work presented a rather slanted account of the Hussite Revolution. Titlepage with woodcut vignette. Modern cloth binding and fly-leaves, in places brown-stained, unknown provenance.
