Adams C 3163. Nicht in der BL, bei Brunet, Ebert etc. - Erste Ausgabe dieser guten, von Guillaume Moral besorgten und nach seinem Tode (1564) durch Adrien Turnobe herausgegebenen Edition. - A dedication by the French humanist Adrian Turnebus to King Charles IX precedes the volume. - The scholarly printer Guillaume Morel added a number of works, not published in previous editions. "The Christian apologists bridge the gulf between the old Rome and the new. It is hard to understand the triumphant Christianity of the fourth century unless one knows something about the trials and tribulations through which it had previously passed... Cyprian's treatise 'De Lapsis' contains much valuable information as to the conditions in which a formal persecution of the Christians, such as that ordered by Decius, was carried out... the dramatic monologue 'To Donatus' shows the influence of Juvenal but gives us a vivid picture of the state of society in the writer's day... but Cyprian's most important work and the one that has had the greatest influence on history is the 'On the Unity of the Catholic Church'..." (Wright & Sinclair, History of Later Latin Literature). - Titelbl. mit rep. Randabriss oben (ohne Textverlust). Anfang mit kleiner werdenden Braunfl. in den unt. Gelenken. Ohne flieg. Vors.
