Zweite Ausgabe (EA 1843). - Der ital. Staatsmann Cesare Balbo (1789 Turin 1853) gilt als Vertreter des Neoguelfismus. Allgemeiner bekannt machten ihn zuerst 1843 die Le speranze d'Italia, worin er zeigte, dass die Unabhängigkeit und Einheit Italiens der Freiheit vorangehen müssten. Um diese Parole sammelten sich alle gemäßigten Liberalen. - Titel gestempelt, etw. braunfleckig. - Vortitel mit mehrz. Widmung des franz. Politikers Abel-Francois Villemain, dat. 1846. - Balbo's most famous book, "Delle speranze d'Italia", showed the antirevolutionary nature of his patriotism and liberalism. He wrote that the independence of Italy from Austria was desirable, but Austria should be compensated with territory in the Balkans.
