Mahe III, 655 f. - Eines von 210 Ex. auf Van Gelder-Bütten mit Wasserzeichen "Sagesse" (GA 250). - Prachtvoll und aufwendig gestaltet mit unterschiedlich farbig gedruckten Initialen, Holzschnitt-Vignetten und Illustrationen. - "Denis drew these illustrations, his first, in 1889 and exhibited them with the Independants in 1891, where their influence was considerable, although they were not published for twenty years. A decided break with the usual narritive style of 19th century illustration is seen in the asymmetrical pages. The flatness, simplification, and linear quality create a tense and expressive mood, forecasting the Art Noveau style" (Eleanor M.
