Titel und 89 (statt 90; 85 doppelblattgr., 4 gefalt.) altkolor. Kupferstichkarten. 2 Bl., 151 (recte 147) S., 40; 2 Bl., S. 157-312, 37 Bl. Restaurierter Hldr. d. Zt. (Etw. berieben und fleckig).

Phillips 2831, 3032 und 3034: "In 1680 appeared the first volume of the magnificent publication for which Pitt is chiefly known, 'The English atlas', a work formerly held in great estimation. Bishop William Nicolson [für die beiden vorliegenden Bände] and Richard Peers were generally responsable for the geographical and historical description. The maps are mainly based on Jansson's 'Atlas'. It was to extend to eleven volumes, but only four volumes, and the text of a fifth, large folio, appeared." - Mit Karten von Deutschland und seinen Nachbargebieten; hervorzuheben sind die gefalteten Karten von Baden und der Wesermündung, die in keinem anderen Atlas zu finden sind. - Ohne die beiden Porträts und Karte XL in Band III ("Iuliacensis et Montensis ducatus"). - Text und Karten rot regliert, beide Titel gestempelt, die Karte "Alsatia inferior" (Karte XXXXII in Band II) rechts bis über den Plattenrand beschnitten und eingefaltet. Gering gebräunt, Text stellenw. wenig fleckig, insgesamt sauber und sorgfältig altkoloriert. With maps of Germany and its neighbouring areas; a highlight are the folded maps of Baden and the Weser estuary which cannot be found in any other atlas. - Without the two portraits and map XL in vol. III ("Iuliacensis et Montensis ducatus"). - Text and maps framed with red lines, both titles stamped, map "Alsatia inferior" (map XXXXII in vol. II) on the right cut up to plate edge and folded. Minimally browned, text here and there a little soiled, altogether clean and in accurate contemporary hand colouring. - Contemporary restored half calf (some rubbing and soiling).
