Seine Korrespondenz mit W.Melmoth spiegelt sein politisches Interesse an der Schweiz sowie seine exakten Beobachtungen wider. "A very authentic and complete description of Switzerland by a philosophical traveller..." (Lowndes). - Es fehlt die Generalkarte d. Schweiz. Unbeschn. Ex., Blattränd. angefarnst. Tls. stockfl. Anfang d. 1. Bds. leicht wasserrandig. - - First illustrated edition. In fact this is a revised and enlarged edition of Coxe's earlier publication of the letters, with engraved figures and maps added. This edition served as the base of a number of editions published in the following decenium. With one map of the Mont Blanc and adjacent Alps engraved by W. Palmer, the large folding panorama "View of the Alps as seen from the environs of Berne", a "View of the lakes of Thun and Brienz from the top of the Niess".
