Blattränd. etw. brüchig. - Very rare first edition of this important work on mathematics by the Swiss mathematician Jakob Bernoulli (1654-1705). This posthumous treatise, edited by his nephew, was the first significant book on probability theory: it set forth the fundamental principles of the calculus of propabilities and contained the first suggestion that the theory could be applied beyond the boundaries of mathematics, to civic, moral and economic affairs.
