Graesse V, 218. Denis Petau (1583-1652), Latinized to Dionysius Petavius, earned a Master of Arts in Greek at Paris. In 1605 he joined the Jesuits. For many years he was professor of divinity at the College de Clermont, the chief Jesuit establishment in Paris.
