Stafleu TL 2, 15.410. - The plates are arranged by botanical family, each plate therefore depicting several different plants, resulting in admirable and attractive groupings of form and colour. - Elizabeth Twining (1805-89) war eines von 9 Kindern des Teehändlers Richard Twining. Sie schrieb und zeichnete verschiedene botanische Werke von denen das bemerkenswerteste die "Illustrations of the natural Orders of Plants" ist. Darüberhinaus war sie auch philantropisch und erzieherisch tätig, sie organisierte die ersten "mothers meetings" in London und war an der Gründung des Bedford College für Mädchen beteiligt (The Twickenham Museum, übers.). - Anfangs Vors. u. 4 Textbl. knickfaltig, einige Bl. etw. stockfleckig. Wenige Tafeln leicht gebräunt u. tls. etw. stockfleckig (Taf. 3 etw. stärker) u. fingerfleckig. Textbl. 80 mit kl. Randeinrissen. - Insges. sauberes Exemplar des seltenen und gesuchten Werkes.
