Erste Ausgabe. - Chavanne 2176. Fiske 609. - Joseph Banks bereiste 1772 mit Solander u. Troil Island u. d. Basaltinsel Staffa, die er als erster wissenschaftlich beschrieb (vgl. Henze I, 157.). Das Werk wurde in mehrere Sprachen übersetzt u. enthält eine Island-Bibliographie (105 Werke). - Troil (1746-1803) was the archbishop of Upsala. He traveled to Iceland in 1772 on the expedition undertaken by Joseph Banks. Included are letters from philologist Joh. Ihre on the Snorra Edda; the physician Abraham Back on elephantiasis; and T.C. Bergman on volcanoes. The three London editions 1780-83 are widely held by institutions, but this first edition seems uncommon. NUC locates 6 copies. - Vereinzelt stockfleckig. N.a.Vors. Exlibris.
