The first German edition was published in Zürich 1563, by Froschauer. All 3 German editions are "a much abridged translation of the first two volumes of 'Historia animalium' into German by Conrad Forer (or Forrer) (d. 1594); a few chapters were translated by Johannes Herold. Forer was a Swiss physician who became a parson in the city of Winterthur. He corresponded with Gessner and wrote a botanical treatise... Though published while Gessner was still alive, it was probably not authorized by him. It contains some passages (especially fanciful descriptions of mythical animals) not found in Gessner's original work" (Wellisch p. 60). - Durchgeh. papierbedingt gebräunt u. stärker stockfleckig. Tit. u. Anfang mit leichten Quetschfalten. Das le. Bl. fachm. restaur. (angefasert, ohne Textverlust).
