Blankaart (1650-1702) succeeded in 1675 for the first time in injecting the capillary vessels. He thus obtained permanent and objective proof of the passage of the arteries into the veins. This injection technique having first been suggested by Leonardo da Vinci and later used also by such prominent anatomists as de Graaf, Swammerdam, and Ruysch.
