Sehr seltene erste deutsche Ausgabe. - Luigi Taparelli, a Jesuit scholar and well-known catholic polemicist, promoted the revival of scholasticism at the Collegio Romano in the 1820s, where his students included the future Leo XIII. First published between 1840-1843, his Theoretical Treatise on Natural Right Based on Fact elaborated a natural-law approach to politics that became a hallmark of Catholic social doctrine. Building on the work of St. Thomas, it offered a systematic exposition of natural law on the basis of observation and experience. "Indeed, his labors were altogether in line with the whole tendency of the natural-law doctrine of the philosophia perennis. Consequently, too, the doctrine of the state of nature has had no importance for it, quite in contrast to the rationalist natural law whose foundation was precisely this state of nature" (Rommen, The Natural Law 193). - Tls. etw. stärker stockfleckig.
