Erste Ausgabe des prachtvollen Werkes. - Brunet I, 32 - Palau 13069 - Sabin 40038 - Henze II, 131: "Dupaix unternahm auf Befehl des spanischen Königs Karl IV drei Reisen zur Erforschung der im Norden des mexikanischen Staates Chiapas gelegenen Ruinen von Palenque u. benachbarter Regionen. Begleitet wurde er von dem Zeichner L. de Castaneda, dem man eine erste deutliche Vorstellung von den Altertümern Palenques verdankt ... Manuskripte und Zeichnungen der Dupaix'schen Expeditionen ... gingen während der mexikan. Revolution verloren und wurden erst 1828 im naturwiss. Kabinett von Mexiko wieder ans Licht gebracht." - Laut Tafelverzeichnis und Kollation fehlen 2 Tafeln und eventuell 1 nicht im Taf.-Verz. aufgef. Karte. - Teils etwas wasserrandig bzw. etwas stockfleckig, Tafeln angefalzt, Falzstege gebräunt u. teils mit Läsuren, teils etwas gelockert bzw. lose. Vorsätze u. Titel des Textbandes teils mit Einrissen, etwas fleckig u. gestempelt. - First edition. - 2 parts and atlas in 2 vols (text and plates). - With lithogr title (atlas), 164 (of 166) lithogr ills to 159 plates. - Later red calf, gilt to board, gilt title to spine. - Acc to table of plates and collation 2 plates missing, probably 1 further unlisted map missing. - Partly some marginal waterstaining/ foxing, plates re-stubbed, stubs browned and partly frayed, some loosening. Endpapers and title of text vol with tears, some staining and stamps.
