Eine Sammlung prächtiger Stiche des Abbé de Saint-Non, die malerische Landschaften, Fragmente von Gemälden aus den Kirchen und Palästen von Rom, Bologna, Neapel und Venedig sowie Antiquitäten und Wandmalereien aus Herculaneum zeigen. Saint-Non arbeitete hauptsächlich nach den Zeichnungen von Jean-Honoré Nicolas Fragonard (1732-1806) und Hubert Robert (1733-1808), aber auch die Straßenszenen von Rembrandt (1606-1669) und die Karikaturen von Tiepolo (1696-1770) sind bemerkenswert. Die Stiche wurden in Radierung und mit der Au-Lavis-Technik ausgeführt, die einige Jahre zuvor von Jean-Baptiste Le Prince perfektioniert wurde, um faszinierende Aquarelleffekte zu erzielen. - Teilw. stärk. stockfleckig, und tls. etw. gebräunt. Breitrandig. - Early impression, alter Cohen-Ricci the first. - A collection of splendid engravings made by the Abbé de Saint-Non and depicting picturesque landscapes, fragments of paintings from the churches and palaces of Rome, Bologna, Naples and Venice, as well as antiques and wall paintings from Herculaneum. Saint-Non worked mostly on the drawings of Jean-Honoré Nicolas Fragonard (1732-1806) and Hubert Robert (1733-1808), but the street scenes taken by Rembrandt (1606-1669) and the caricatures by Tiepolo (1696-1770) are also notable. The engravings were made in etching and with the au lavis technique, perfected a few years earlier by Jean-Baptiste Le Prince to obtain fascinating watercolour effects. - Some foxing in places, light browning. Wide-margined copy in 19th century haif-calf. (Rubbed).
