"L. compiled this book from various sources which he translated in French: the 'Histoire de plantes' is based on 'Historia plantarum' (1561) by Antoine du Pinet, a French botanist who had compiled his books from botanical writings by F.A. Mattioli and other authors. The following six parts of the books, each of which has its own title page, are condensations of Gessner's 'Historia animalium' and from other zoological works" (W.).
