Graff 3789 - Wheat 641 - Sabin 81353: "One of the most accurate and complete of all the narratives of exploration of the country of the Zuni and the Pueblos Indians." - Die Tafeln mit Porträts von Vertretern verschiedener Stämme, Alltagsszenen, Festen, Kostümen, Ansiedlungen, Ruinen, Altertümern und Schriftzeichen. - Zur Tafelkollation: 1, 3-20, 22-38, 40-65, 66 (1 und 2), 67 (1, 2 und 3) und 68-75 (laut Sabin so komplett).- Fleckig, die Anzeigenseiten 9-12 doppelt eingebunden. Kapitale leicht läd., gering bestoßen. # First Trade Edition.- With 75 (partly colored) lithographed plates as called for (numbers 2, 21, and 39 not issued), and 1 (folded) engraved map.- Though the object of the original expedition was "the chastisement of the Navajo Indians", Simpson thoroughly documented the scenery and indigenous people that he encountered. The expedition also discovered the ruins in Chaco and Chelly canyons.- Plates with portraits of representatives of different tribes, everyday scenes, celebrations, costumes, settlements, ruins, antiquities and characters.- Soiled, advertising pages 9-12 bound-in twice.- Original brown cloth with rules and decoration stamped in blind on the boards and titles stamped in gilt on the spine (turn-ins slightly damaged, minimally scuffed).
