Erste deutsche Ausgabe. - Das Werk war nur wenige Monate zuvor als Einleitung zu seinem "Traité de chimie organique" in französischer Sprache erschienen. Liebig stellt darin fest, daß nur die mineralischen Bestandteile des Bodens für Gesundheit und Wachstum der Pflanzen ausschlaggebend sind und empfiehlt die Anwendung künstlicher Düngemittel. - Der vord. fl. Vorsatz fehlt. - Sehr schön gebundes dekoratives Ex. - Exlibris von Herbert McLean Evans. - First Edition in German and first separate edition of "'one of the most important books in the history of scientific agriculture" (DSB). - Liebig's book, which had first appeared in a French translation four months earlier as the first volume of a Trait de chimie organique, aroused enormous interest throughout Europe and America - 17 editions in various languages appeared within the decade.
