Erste Ausgabe dieser seltenen Abhandlung über Fossilien des Zürcher Mathematikers und Naturforschers Johannes Gessner. Er war ein Schüler von Johann Jakob Scheuchzer und dessen Nachfolger am Carolinum und ein enger Freund von Albrecht von Haller. Auf Seite 84 findet sich die erste Erwähnung einer fossilen Schildkröte, die im Kanton Glaris gefunden wurde und sich im Kabinett des Herrn Zoller aus Eglisau befand. Die naturkundliche Sammlung von Gessner war eine der interessantesten Sehenswürdigkeiten in Zürich. PROVENIENZ: Francis Arthur Bather (1863-1934), britischer Paläontologe, Geologe und Malakologe, mit seiner Unterschrift vom 17. Feb. 1913 auf dem Vorsatzblatt. - First edition of this rare treatise on fossils by the Zurich mathematician and naturalist, Johannes Gessner. He was a student of Johann Jakob Scheuchzer and his successor at the Carolinum and a close friend of Albrecht von Haller. - Early 20th century half morocco, spine on raised bands, gilt title, uncut.
