Nissen 698. Hunt 230. - Dritte Ausg. (EA 1597, 1633) v. Gerardes voluminösem, besonders reich illustr. engl. Kräuterbuch, zugleich die 2. (u. beste) v. Johnson besorgte Aufl. - Ein Teil der Abb. stammt wohl aus dem 1591 ersch. Kräuterbuch von Tabernaemontanus, wie auch der Text kontinentalen Ursprungs ist. "However this revision by Thomas Johnson, probably the royalist surgeon, contains a good deal of genuine English botany, and a few of this localities can still be recognized" (Stiftung für Botanik Liechtenstein 281). - Kupfertit. aufgez., etw. tintenfl. und mit kl. Schäden im Innensteg. Stellenweise etw. fl., wenige Randeinrisse. Überwiegend laienhaftes Kolorit. Spät. Vors. Gelenke etw. brüchig. Insgesamt ein zufrieden stellendes Ex.
