(Quotations of Chairman Mao, in Chinese). Letterpress printed and edited by the Central Political Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, no location but probably Peking (May/June 1964). 16°. Half-title printed in red, title-page in red and green inks, portrait of Chairman Mao and the rare Lin Biao facsimile calligraphic endorsement of Mao's writings in brown ink. Then follows a letterpress introduction (1/2), a table of contents (1/2) and the text itself (1/250) without any additional colophon or printing history (found in nearly all later editions). Original binding.
First edition, 2nd issue binding in original red vinyl with stiff cardboard wrappers fitted inside, added headbands at top and bottom, its title blind-stamped on the upper cover above a red star. Although printed the same time as the issue in paper covers, it took a few weeks to create this more durable binding for use by PLA brigades and by which this "little red book" is best known. - Portrait a little foxed. - Please ask for a detailed description.
