Schweinsldr. d. Zt. über Holzdeckeln mit reicher Blind- u. Rollenpräg. (Allegorien) sowie Messingschließen. (Best., tls. wurmspurig, ob. Kap. mit Fehlstelle).

Ausg. des berühmtesten u. schönsten Kräuterbuches der Renaissance mit altkolor. Pflanzenholzschn. "Man kann dieses Werk bedenkenlos als das großartigste Kräuterbuch bezeichnen. Heute noch benützt man in wissenschaftlichen Werken seine Abbildungen, da es bis heute nichts Schöneres und künstlerisch Wertvolleres gibt. Man nimmt an, daß Holbein bei den Entwürfen Pate gestanden hat" (Heilmann S. 204). - Es fehlen 16 Bl. an versch. Stellen, darunter die Portr. der drei Illustratoren. - Etw. (finger-)fl., Anfang u. Ende wurmstichig (sonst nur wenige Wurmlöcher), vereinzelte Randeinrisse, 1 Bl. mit Einriss und nahezu gelöst, wenige Bl. am Anfang u. Schluss mit deutlicheren tls. hinterlegten Randläsuren, Tit. mit hinterlegtem Ausschnitt u. Einriss (Beine des Fuchs-Porträts auf der Rückseite betroffen). - First German edition of the celebrated herbal. With fullpage woodcut portrait of Fuchs, 2 woodcut printer's devices and c. 500 botanical woodcuts in contemporary coloring. Contemporary pigksin over wooden boards, richly blind- and rolltooled (allegories) and with brass clasps (bumped, partly with worming, upper crown damaged). Lacking 16 sheets at different places (incl. portraits of the illustrators). - Some staining, worming at the beginning and end (inside only few wormholes), here and there marginal tears, 1 leaf torn and nearly detached, few sheets at beginning and end with marginal defects, title torn and with cut out spot (backed, affecting the legs of the Fuchs portrait on title verso).
