Einband mit Plattenstempel, signiert André Boule. Paris um 1500-1530 Lose Vorder- und Rückdeckel desselben Buches, Format 8°. Ca. 18 x 11,5 cm. Blindgestempeltes Kalbleder mit Platten, einige Löcher (von Bindungen) (einige min. def. oder winzige Löcher). Guter Abdruck der Tafeln.
Schöner, verzierter französischer Renaissance-Einband des Pariser Buchhändlers und Buchbinders André Boule (um 1500-1530). Wie alle Boule-Einbände zeigt die Vorderseite (120 x 82 mm) den heiligen Sebastian an einen Pfahl gefesselt, die Hände über dem Kopf, auf jeder Seite ein Bogenschütze, darüber zwei Engel, die eine Krone tragen. Umgeben von einer verzierten Bordüre mit Weinreben, Tieren und Blattwerk und dem Namen des Buchbinders "ANDRI BOVLE" am unteren Rand. Wie Goldschmidt Gruel zitiert, "ist dies die häufigste, aber auch eine der schönsten französischen Plattenmarken". Die Rückwand (133 x 92 mm) zeigt die Kreuzigung mit dem heiligen Thomas von Aquin und der heiligen Katharina von Siena sowie den Namen des Buchbinders am unteren Rand. Umgeben von einer verzierten Bordüre mit Eicheln, Weinreben und Tieren. Der Rand außerhalb der Tafeln ist mit Filets und einem Blumenrollstempel verziert. Ref. Cont. blind-stamped calf with panels, some holes (from ties) (some min. def. or tiny holes). Good impression of the panels. Beautiful, decorated French Renaissance binding by the Paris bookseller and binder André Boule (fl. 1500-1530). Like all Boule bindings, the front panel (120 x 82 mm) shows St. Sebastian fastened to a stake, his hands above his head, on each side an archer; above two angels bringing a crown. Surrounded by an orn. border of grape-vines, animals and foliage and the binder's name "ANDRI BOVLE" at bottom. As Goldschmidt cites Gruel, "this is the most frequent, but also one of the most beautiful, of French panel stamps". The back panel (133 x 92 mm) depicts the Crucifixion with St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Catharine of Siena and the binder's name at bottom. Surrounded by an orn. border of acorns, grape-vines and animals. The margin outside the panels is decorated with fillets and a flower roll stamp. Ref. Goldschmidt 56.
