Zacharakis 2188. - Erste illustrierte Ausgabe mit den Anmerkungen des Olivarius und den Holzschnittkarten nach Sebastian Münster. Eine der gefalteten Karten zeigt die früheste gedruckte Abbildung der Nordwest-Küste Amerikas ("Terra incognita"). "This is the earliest representation of the north-west coast of America on a printed map ... It also shows one of the first delineations of a strait between Asia and America some 200 years before Vitus Bering's voyage to this area" (Burden). Über die Abbildung Amerikas schreibt Wagner (in: Cartography of the Northwest Coast of America I, 9): "In the Polyhistory of Julius Solinus, published in Basel in 1538 a map appeared which had suffered some modifications from the ordinary Ptolemy map. At the upper right hand corner there is a piece of coastline extending northwest which is labeled 'Terra incognita', perhaps some twenty degrees removed from the 'Regnum Cathay'. On the coast there are two trees and a river opposite a small bay ... The trend of the coast and its distance from Asia remind one very strongly of the delineation of this part of North America on the Ortelius map of 1564." - Auf S. 48 findet sich die erste Karte, die die Flußläufe Rußlands mit hinreichender Genauigkeit abbildet (vgl.
