90-3317 Himmelsglobus
Globus aus Messing mit reichen figürlichen Darstellungen, drehbar mont. auf dreibeinigem Ständer mit gravierter Skala. Wohl Nordindien, dat. 1255 (d. i. 1839/40). Höhe: ca. 27 cm, Durchmesser: ca. 20,5 cm.
Indischer Himmelsglobus mit Äquatorialskala, horizontaler Ringskala und vielen figürlichen Darstellungen, hergestellt im Ätzverfahren. Die Oberfläche der Sphaira ist fast vollständig von Figuren mit Beischriften bedeckt, darunter den Tierkreiszeichen und diversen mythologischen Gestalten, unter anderem auch von Adam und Eva sowie einem Paar beim Geschlechtsakt. Vor allem diese Darstellung zeigt deutlich die Zugehörigkeit zum nordindischen Kulturkreis der späten Mogulzeit. Die Inschriften in arabischer Sprache sind sehr grob gehalten und stammen von einen ungeübten Kalligraphen. Nahe dem Kopf eines Drachenvogels (?) und an die umlaufende Gradskala anschließend werden das Datum 1255 genannt (1839/40 westlicher Zeitrechnung) und der Name "Shafiq Marla Bayg", ein für das nördliche Indien typischer Name. - Der Globus dürfte ein älteres Vorbild wiederholen. - Stellenw. gering berieben. - Celestial globe. Globe made of brass with rich figurative illustrations, pivotable, mounted on tripodal pedestal with engraved scale. Probably North India, dated 1255 (i. e. 1839/40). Height: ca. 27 cm, diameter: ca. 20,5 cm. - Indian celestial globe with equatorial scale, horizontal circle scale and many figurative illustrations, made in etching technique. The surface of the sphaira is almost completely covered by figures with inscriptions, below the signs of the zodiac and various mythological figures, a. o. also Adam and Eve and a couple making love. This illustration in particular shows clearly the affiliation with the North Indian culture of the late mogul period. The inscriptions in Arabic are not very delicate and are made by an unskilled calligrapher. Close to the head of a dragon bird (?) and the circumferential scale one can find the date 1255 (1839/40 Christian era) and the name "Shafiq Marla Bayg", a typical name for the northern part of India. - The globe is probably a copy of an older model. - Minor rubbing here and there.
