Mead, who was a friend of Sir Isaac Newton, and, with William Cheselden, his physician to the end of his life, here applies Newtonian principles to medicine, and attempts "to show that the gravitational force exercised by the sun and moon influenced not only the flow of tidal waters but the fluids of the body" (Gjertsen, The Newton Handbook).
