Werken auf seine in Ägypten gemachten Forschungen. - Fehlendes Titelblatt, in Kopie eingebunden. Tls. wasserrandig u. restauriert, die ersten 16 inkl. Kupfertafeln gereinigt. - Rare first edition. The titlepage in photostat and first 32p. including 16 plates have been cleaned. The rest has a waterstain at the bottom mostly rather faint but getting stronger at the end. Some small paper restorations in the margins of the text. Most bibliographers count 145 engravings but this copy has have 146. Prosperus Alpinus or Alpino (1553-1617) was a reknown doctor in Venice and was a great botanist and director of the botanical gardens in Padova and this nicely illustrated book is important for its illustrations and descriptions of exotic plants from the Middle East such as the Conuoluulo Arabico, Hyosciamo albo Aegyptio, Lotus Aegyptia incl. 6 different engravings and which was a holy flower in Egypt, Maru Aegyptiorum etc.
