This was Sir Thomas Hanmer`s second edition and a reprint of his 1744-46 edition, which had sold out in only 3 years. It is based on Pope`s edition and includes his introduction, as well as the renowned foreword on Shakespeare`s life by Rowe, the first editor of Shakespeare`s works. It is best known for its illustrations which were designed under strict supervision of the editor. - With frontispiece and 38 engraved plates by F. Gravelot after Hayman. - Innengelenke tls. brüchig, etw. gelockert, tls. lose. Einige Blattränder angestaubt u. etw. randrissig. Breitrandiges, nur leicht stockfl. Ex. Sehr selten. - Contemporary calf. Joints mostly broken, two backs partly broken, missing pieces at head and tails, rubbed and buped. Some marginal small tears and a little foxing of the leaves.
