Bd. der letzten Ausgabe des berühmten Insekten-Werkes der Merian wurde hier wohl erstmalig dem Werk beigegeben. Er enthält dekorative Blumentat., nur tlw. mit Darst. von Schmetterlingen u. Insekten, darunter Alpenvelichen (2), Iris (2), Krokus (3), Narzissen (8), Nelken, Rosen, Tulpen (9) u.a. - Exceptional king size botanical work richly illustrated with altogether 116 splendid handcoloured engraved plates. Part 1 (as bound in the present volume), but in fact published as the 3rd part, certainly the rarest one of the 3 parts: "Des plantes bulbeuses, liliacees, caryophyllees". 69 handcoloured engraved plates. Each plate shows one or more flowers, all full page, some plates also show a decorative insect, mainly butterflies. Part 2: "Des plantes de l'Europe". 47 handcoloured engraved plates with altogether 184 engr. compositions (copper plates) numbered 1-182, incl. 1bis and 51bis: 43 plates with 4 engr. compositions each, and 4 plates with 3 engr. compositions each, showing one or more plants, flowers, and fruit, a few plates show a decorative ring of flowers, and an arrangement in a vase or a basket. Many of these compositions include one or more decorative insects such as butterflies, caterpillars, moths, snakes, lizzards, an occas. bird, and a spider in his spider web, ; compos. nr. 152 to 182 are of larger size than the preceding ones.
