114 Aquarellen mit Kostümen und Trachten der Levante, vornehmlich der Türkei. (Griechenland?, um 1830). Blattgr. ca. 19 x 13 cm. Lose.
Vgl. Atabey 292 u. 293. - Umfangreiche Folge von Aquarellen nach O. Dalvimart, The Costume of Turkey und anderen Kostümwerken des osmanischen Reiches und der Levante. Auf Velin-Papier mit gelegentlichen fragmentarischen Wasserzeichen "F..." und "2...". Dargestellt sind Kostüme vom osmanischen Hof sowie Musiker, Frauen, Gelehrte, Händler, Soldaten u.v.m. Alle Blätter verso mit Bleistift, selten mit Tinte bezeichnet. Die sicher zeitgenössische Handschrift lässt auf eine Entstehung im griechischen Raum schließen. Atabey beschreibt mehrere ähnliche Folgen von Aquarellen, wobei Nr. 292 größte Ähnlichkeit zu der vorliegenden Folge aufweist und vermerkt dazu: "This is a very interesting collection of drawings... closely related to the collection of lithographed plates below (Atabey 293; ca. 1823)... Many ... are drawn and coloured directly after the lithographs... The lithographed version must have been available in the Levant as a source book, and some indigenous Greek 'artist of the bazaar' used it to produce these drawings." - Gleichmäßig leicht gebräunt, vereinzelt etwas stockfleckig, wenige Bll. mit Montageresten verso und vom Passepartout gebräuntem Rand. 2 Bll. mit hinterl. Randeinriss. - Series of 114 watercolours of costumes of the Levant, mainly from Turkey. Drawn after the plates of Dalvimart and other sources. - Minor equal browning, occasional foxing, mounting remnants and marginal browning from passe-partouts to few leaves. Backed marginal tear to 2 plates.
