Mit zahlr. Bleistiftanstreichungen und hs. Notizen des Indologen Johann Jakob Meyer (1870-1939) (ADB 17, 353) versehenes Ex., mit eh. Namenszug, der zwischen dem 9. und 14. Jh. nach Chr. verfassten und erstmals 1944 auch auf Deutsch veröffentlichten Sammlung von Fabeln in Prosa. Sie gehören in die Gattung des Nitisastra, Lehrbücher über Lebensklugheit, und dienten besonders der Erziehung zum klugen politischen Handeln. Als eines der beliebtesten Werke der indischen Erzählliteratur fanden diese Fabeln bereits im Mittelalter durch zahlreiche Übersetzungen ihren Weg nach Europa. - Annotated copy by the Indologist Johann Jakob Meyer (1870-1939) of the famous collection of fables, written between the 9th and 14th century. This classic work in Indian literature aims at teaching the principles of polity guided by morality, presenting them in the agreeable form of stories written mainly in prose interspersed with verse.
