"Roberts returned from the Holy Land in 1839. In June 1840 the Art Union says.... we believe Mr. Harding has undertaken the difficult task of reproducing the sketches in lithography; ... The price of the projected work is mentioned as 100 guineas coloured arid 50 guineas plain, and it is said that the original sketches were on exhibition." (Abbey). Die endgültige Fertigstellung des Werkes nahm 7 volle Jahre in Anspruch. Louis Haghe schuf die Lithographien u. G. Croly verfasste den begleitenden Text. Neben den schönen Landschafts- u. Städteansichten (Bethlehem, Jaffa, Jerusalem, Kairo etc.) und den Darstellungen des Volkslebens sind besonders die architekturgeschichtlich wertvollen Abbildungen der Tempelheiligtümer in Baalbeck, Dendora, Edfou, Gizeh, Karnak usw. hervorzuheben. "Roberts gehört zu den geschütztesten Architekturmalern der neueren Zeit." (Thieme-B.). - Ohne die Subskribentenliste. - 6 volumes.
