The Kiefer auction house

In 1979, Peter Kiefer founded the Peter Kiefer Antiquarian Bookstore out of his passion for collecting antiquarian books. Sales and the customer base grew steadily over the years, so that the first auction catalog was published in 1985.

The auctions became increasingly extensive over the years, and today the Kiefer Auction House has grown to 16 permanent employees and 1,800 square meters of space.

For our customers and consignors, we also participate in national and international antiquarian book fairs. Of course, you can also find us on the relevant online platforms.

Due to our existing basic structure, we are also able to take on new challenges in addition to our five regular book and art auctions. In 2000, for example, we auctioned around 60,000 works from a southern German princely library, and the following year we held a special auction with 16,000 cookbooks from the Rolf Dittmar collection. This was followed by a jewelry auction of exquisite jewels commissioned by the Pforzheim tax office.

A special highlight in 2003 was the dissolution of the "Zum Heiligen Grab" monastery in Baden-Baden and the auction of its entire inventory (furniture, carpets, household items, monastery library, etc.) commissioned by the Archbishop's Office of Freiburg. This was especially important because it was the first sale of a monastery's holdings through a public auction.

This was followed in 2004 by the organization and financing (with a partner) of the exhibition "Salvador Dali - The Golden Age," featuring 800 exhibits at Bruchsal Castle. The exhibition ran for three months and was a huge success, attracting over 60,000 visitors.
