He was the first to describe valvular vegetation, and his book gives a classification of the cardiac diseases then recognized. Lancisi's work laid the foundation of cardiac pathology" (Garrison-Morton 2731)."Lancisi was one of the outstanding Italian clinicians of the early eighteenth century and was particularly skilled as a cardiologist. The present work on fatal illnesses includes many postmortem findings, occasioned by the rash of sudden deaths that occurred in Rome during 1705 e 1706.
