The ancient ecclesiastical histories of the first six hundred yeares after Christ, written in the Greeke tongue by three learned historiographers, Eusebius, Socrates, and Euagrius. Eusebius Pamphilus Bishop of Caesarea in Palaestina wrote 10. bookes. Socrates Scholasticus of Constantinople wrote 7. bookes. Euagrius Scholasticus of Antioch wrote 6. bookes. Whereunto is annexed Dorotheus Bishop of Tyrus, of the liues and ends of the prophets, apostles, and 70. disciples. All which authors are faithfully translated out of the Greeke tongue by Meredith Hanmer... Seltene, noch frühe Übersetzung dieser Kirchengeschichte. - Hanmer (1543-1604) first came to public notice as a writer, producing in 1581 two semi-official responses to Campion's famous challenge. In 1577 he published The Ancient Ecclesiastical Histories, which sought to provide a detailed account of the first six centuries of Christian history by translating near contemporary sources, most notably Eusebius's Ecclesiastical History. - Tit. u.
