Lonchamp 1068. Kosch V, 292 f. Erste Ausgabe. - The German-American poet and revolutionary Follen was imprisoned at Berlin for agitation in the years from 1819 to 1821, thereafter he lived in Switzerland, taught in Aarau. In 1824 he fled to the United States where he later became a citizen. Apart of Follen's own poems the book offers some poems by Fritz Hessemer, Huldreich Goll, Karl Heinrich Hofmann, and Rosslieb Wackernagel plus songs by Karl Rudolf Tanner. In commemoration of the poet and theatre writer August Fresenius (1789-1813) Follen incorporated some of his poems in the present edition. Gessner's engravings depict Swiss Sceneries. - Breitrandiges Ex., fleckig, Vors. erneuert.
