Box (sailor`s work) with telescope. mid 19th century. rectangular dark staines wooden box, 35,6 x 10,2 x 10 cm., decorated with inlays of lighter coloured woods and ivory. There are also applied decorations consisting of a telescope on the top, a parallel rule, and a divider on the side and each end has a scrimshaw compass rose. The inside of the box is lined with plush. - The box has some minor checking in the ivory and a chip two cm. long at one corner. There are a few small chips elsewhere at the corners and the hasp lacks its loop. - Overall good condition.
